During her official visit to Suriname, Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez began talks with Surinamese President Jennifer Simons at the Presidential Palace in Paramaribo. The sides reaffirmed their intention to strengthen bilateral cooperation and conclude mutually beneficial agreements. The talks also provided an opportunity to assess the implementation of previous agreements and the work of technical commissions established after Suriname’s Foreign Minister Albert Ramdin visited Venezuela in May.
The new agenda’s top priorities included energy—including oil, gas and strategic resources—as well as the development of maritime and air links. The countries also intend to expand cooperation in agriculture and fishing, strengthen food security, and step up trade, tourism, and cultural and educational exchanges. Diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Suriname were established in November 1975; the current meeting is intended to advance them to a new stage of regional integration in the Caribbean and South America.
