Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said his country was ready to resume and strengthen diplomatic relations with Venezuela. According to him, the two countries previously maintained “very good relations” and could now return to the level of cooperation that existed before 2009. The diplomat emphasized the strategic and symbolic importance of a possible rapprochement.
Israel also offered to help Venezuela rebuild after the material damage caused by the earthquakes on June 24. Danon noted that Israeli expertise and technology could be useful in implementing Venezuela’s reconstruction and development plans. He added that such cooperation was consistent with Israel’s broader policy of expanding technical and scientific exchanges with Latin American countries.
